THE POWER OF IMAGE

1. Photographs seem to speak to us.

They draw us in and invite us to recall memories or construct imaginary stories.

They engage and give rise to all sorts of little bursts of emotion, thought and curiosity.

1.a. Feelings and emotions. Look at these pictures.

What kind of emotions do they recall in you?

How do you feel?

1.b  Speculation. Discuss and answer to the following questions:

1. This is a famous statue. Can you identify it?
2. Where is located?
3. What’s going on here?
4. Who is this man and what is he doing?

2. Grammar focus. Writing sentences about an image.

   “I wonder…”

    The verb “to wonder” is followed by question words as well as the

     conjunctions “if” and “whether”.

     Look at the pictures and construct your own “I wonder sentences”.

     

    For example:

    I wonder who the man is…………..

    I wonder where the man is going…..

    I wonder why the traveller is leaving his own country…….
